Missing Entry: Tuesday 10th June

For some reason, this post never made it to the blog. So here it is, albeit out of order!

Tuesday, 10 June

There was one Dutch thing which I had not yet eaten, so I repented this morning, and had my Hagelslag on white bread. Not only that, but also some appel mousse on beskuit (light rusks). Jacqui took a picture of me eating the Hagelslag, but deleted it by mistake. We’ll have to have it again tomorrow so that we can take another picture.

It was a day to be at home and enjoy the last moments around Pappa. I took to the garden again with renewed energy, with my MP3’s playing to me via my cellphone. After working in the garden a few times, I have managed to learn a few principles that make it easier. So, the garden is not complete, but the front of the house is looking a lot better. The stone path around the house is now completely clear. Pappa was very impressed and Jacqui made me quite a few refreshments throughout.
Her time was filled with going through Pappa’s old Indonesian recipe book and copying the delicious meals. She’s excited to be getting home and trying them all out. We’ve had quite a few exotic meals here – I cannot remember all the names. Tonight we’re having bami.

The weather has started turning cold with he westerly sea-breeze today. We cycled to Workum to get some groceries and our ears got very cold (and when the wind was against us it felt like we were getting nowhere). We have been very spoiled with the great weather we’ve had. We wouldn’t have been able to make it to Ijsterbos in such weather. We have been staying here during the perfect time.

The bags are already mostly packed. But there is nothing with which to weigh our baggage. Tomorrow we go to Hanneke who will take us to Leiden, where we will spend the night. Then Tursday I’ll take Jacqui to the airport and carry on to the train station.

I think we have made the most of our time here. Pappa says it has been too short.

We took a walk to the nearby canal to enjoy some tea and biscuits (chocolate covered butter cookies, hmmm) because we’d like to make the most of the last few hours in Ferwoude. We found a tiny pier on which to relax. It was pretty but it was also quite chilly.

Pappa’s Bami was delicious.
